Check the lost and found: What’s yours can be yours again, now clean

We had three gracious members who took on the heinous towel mountain in the Arb’s lost and found and washed, dried, and organized it. We are so grateful. Please see picture at the bottom of this email. If we still have items by the end of this week, we will be donating them to Goodwill, so make sure to check as you come to the pool this week.

More loungers coming
We try to keep our furniture purchases on budget, but we have broken a few loungers already. Please do encourage your wonderful children not to stand on them. Thank you! And thanks to Corey Dickinson for tirelessly sourcing matching loungers and umbrellas for the pool – this time, all the way from Portland.

Friendly reminder: You’re only allowed to bring up to 9 people a day, and if you leave, your guests must go with you. If you leave and your guest stays, they will need to leave.

Cold Plunge in the Arb Showers through Tuesday

OK, it’s not really a cold plunge, but we are replacing our water heater (we thought it would last another year) and the bathhouse showers will be refreshingly chilly  through Tuesday. We apologize for the inconvenience. At this point, we will have replaced all major systems in the bathhouse, including the sewer lift, so fingers crossed this is the last major maintenance for a long while.

Lost and Found Fun

The Arb seeks a few intrepid volunteers to help wrestle the lost and found (aka Beach Towel Mountain) back into shape. Efforts may include laundering towels and clothing items, bringing them back to the Arb, arranging them on a table for members to (hopefully) identify, and then, if no happy reunion between hoodies, swimsuits, beach towels, hair clips, water bottles (some labeled!) and other valuable items occurs, donating these items to Goodwill. Message us at ah-president@ahstc.com if interested and willing to organize with Monica Geller-level (IYKYK) enthusiasm. Thank you!

We hope you’re having an amazing week! Here’s everything exciting happening at AHSTC this week.  Please make sure to always check the calendar before heading to the pool.

Manager’s Corner

Parking Lot Updates We’re thrilled to announce that we’re working on getting our parking lot restriped! In the meantime, if you’re parking in the gravel area, please help us keep things running smoothly by leaving the corner right by the dumpster clear. This ensures our garbage and recycling can be picked up without any issues (and helps us avoid those pesky fines!). When parking, please pull forward around the turn, leave plenty of room for the exit, and help us maximize our space. Thank you so much for your cooperation!

Pool Transition Time During the 30-minute window between lessons ending at 1:00pm and open swim starting at 1:30pm, we’ll ask everyone to clear the pool and check in with our fantastic front desk team. This helps us keep everything organized and safe for everyone.

First Swim Meet This Thursday! We’re hosting our very first home swim meet on Thursday, June 26th. The pool will be closing at 3:00pm that day so we can set up for this exciting event.

Guest Policy Reminders As the weather heats up and our club gets busier, please remember that when we’re close to capacity, we’ll need to temporarily close to guests. Don’t worry though – if you’ve already booked an open swim party, your guests will still be welcome during your scheduled party time. We’ll communicate capacity updates through Facebook, text, and our website.

Here’s a quick refresher on our guest policies:

  • You can bring up to 9 guests on any given day.
  • For more than 9 guests, please call at least 3 days in advance to book a 2-hour open swim party (this helps us ensure we have enough lifeguard staff.)
  • Our office staff will need guest information each visit, so guests will need to use a pass or pay and provide their name
  • You can purchase guest passes through your MembersSplash account or at the office
  • Most importantly: A family member must remain at the pool while you have guests – if you leave, your guests need to come with you

Team Reminders

Swim Team – First Meet Thursday! This Thursday marks our very first swim meet. Remember, the pool closes early at 3:00pm. Swim team families, please RSVP for your swimmer and sign up to volunteer by end of day Tuesday. Let’s make this first meet incredible!

Swim Team

Returning families- please register ASAP if your swimmer is planning to swim this summer! Yes, you technically have another couple of weeks but Coach Chris and Jojo are busily planning Otter Families for 2025, and are keen to know who is and isn’t returning- especially Seniors and 14s. As a reminder, swimmers should be registered before they begin practice–we will start cross-checking rosters this week.

OTTER’S CLUB

Are you scrambling to finalize activities for your child when school’s out? There is still time to register for the Arb’s new Otter’s Club.

https://ahstc.com/otters-club/

Otters Club is a program that provides activities, snacks, and supervision for registered youth members each weekday from 9 am to 1:30 pm.

Otter’s Club is managed by Anja Vander Hijde. Here’s a little about Anja:

Anja Vander Hijde will be the lead for Otters Club! I am a native West Seattle-ite and attended university in Arizona at Grand Canyon University, where I earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology as well as a Minor in Criminal Psychology and Counseling. I have been working in childcare for the past 12 years in various settings – from babysitting, to nannying, to after school enrichment. You may recognize me from working in the office the last 4 summers. I am very excited to get this program rolling and to hang with your kiddos!

Manager Corner

Friendly reminder for early bird lap swimmers: please do not enter the pool until 5:30 or when the lifeguards are ready. Getting in before they have the covers off and their chairs with rescue tubes set up is a huge safety issue because they aren’t focusing on you in the pool; they are still trying to get set up. Lap swim starts 5:30 am and must be out of the pool at 7:15 am.

Thank you,
Lifeguard Staff

Have a fantastic week,

Tam is USTA certified and worked as a tennis pro at Casewell Tennis Center for two years before returning to the Pacific Northwest. Today’s email is a friendly reminder about recycling at our club facilities. As fellow community members who love our beautiful Seattle surroundings, let’s work together to keep our corner of the world green and clean!

Next time you’re at the club, please take an extra moment to check what goes where in our recycling bins.  Not sure what can be recycled? Check it out: https://www.seattle.gov/utilities/your-services/collection-and-disposal/recycling

We’ve all accidentally tossed the wrong item in the recycling bin (those plastic coffee cup lids can be tricky!), but with a little attention, we can make a big difference together.

AHSTC News 5/12

Tennis courts closed on 5/18, parties and rental reservations, and tennis clinics

Dear Members,

We are so excited to see all of you back at the pool. It was wonderful to meet new members at our Opening Day BBQ and we appreciate all that came out.

A few quick notes and reminders

Please remember to drive no faster than 25 mph along 31st Ave SW and be respectful of our neighbors who are walking, biking, and often out with their children. Thank you!

Tennis Courts reserved for event May 18, 9:00 – 11:30 am

In an effort to keep costs down for members, we are experimenting with short-term rentals to high school tennis teams in the off-season for the Club. The first rental will be Sunday, May 18 from 9 am – 11:30 am. The O’Dea tennis team (the club has four member boys on the team, Roll Irish!) will also have a brunch in front of Court 1 on the grass at 11:30, and the courts will then re-open for members. Since the tennis season for Metro League is in the Spring (March- May), this opens the door to future rentals in 2026, and potentially rentals for other leagues in the fall. We do not plan to rent the courts during the summer, this is an exception we are making because of the number of Arb boys on the team.

Parties in 2025

We know members love to host parties at the Arb, and we love for you to host them. A series of noise complaints and a visit from the Seattle Police Department last year (that Dive party is always…loud) alerted us that quiet hours in the Arb’s neighborhood begin at 10 pm on weekend nights, not 11 pm as we previously thought. As such, the Club is at risk for fines and potential legal action from neighbors if we don’t quiet our wild, partying ways.

As such, we are going to move private rentals to a new time, from 8 pm – 10 pm instead of the 9 pm- 11 pm time slot we are all familiar with. This means two things: 1) the pool will still be open for members during the first hour of the party, and 2), the parties will need to wrap up quickly at 10 pm. A straw poll with some of you suggests that the earlier hours may be better for many, but we realize this is a change and sometimes change is hard. The staff and guards will endeavor to be extra helpful for party people to set up and take down events. Thank you for understanding, and we note this is a work in progress.
